D.E.C BavAuto Catalytic Converter Rip Off

I bought this piece of shit in July and installed it a couple months later. It was a complete PITA to install, I had to disconnect the motor mount and jack the motor up and pry the SHIT out of the down tubes to get everything lined up, plus I'm sure I ground up the threads on my exhaust manifolds. It's supposed to be an OE replacement, which means it should bolt right up. The cat itself was just a magnaflow, so that means I could have just went to the local exhaust shop and had one installed for $100, $200 tops. FUCK DEC and BAV, I called up and explained the situation and all he said was "We get the converters from DEC, but we do price match so if you find one cheaper let us know."

Even if I just got $50 store credit I wouldn't be so pissed.

They sell it for $409 + S/H. Go to your local exhaust shop and save hundreds, plus your own time/labor.

I'm never ordering from BavAuto again, I've given them thousands in business before but after this I feel totally ripped off.

BMA is asking more and it's still a D.E.C. But I did order an OEM muffler from BMA with gaskets and they price matched PP who didn't have it in stock, shipped the muffler/donuts/intake gaskets came out to $244, SICK deal! They had the muffler listed for $279 to start with, so they cut a huge amount off.

Yeah, it sounds like the risk you run for going with any aftermarket or "universal" catalytic converter these days.

How did you know it was Magnaflow? Do you know what model? I bought one too a couple years ago. I was wondering if it was even CARB approved. I tried looking at it and couldn't figure it out.

It said Magnaflow right on it, I didn't bother looking for model numbers, I was so pissed and low on time I just started installing it. Which took way longer then it should have because it was a piece of crap. I'm going to install a new OE muffler and motor mounts this coming week, I can't wait to see how much fun it will be fighting with it once more!

I actually didn't have any problems installing it on my '89 325i. The hardest part was getting the nuts off the exhaust manifold. My problem is that they sold me a catalytic converter that I can't use. I think they should say it's not C.A.R.B. certified. I have to admit, I probably shouldn't have assumed it was. This is the only thing I've bought from them that I haven't been happy with. Unfortunately I think it's the most expensive, too.
