review of the Mason Engineering Rear Brace system

well today i recieved the rear brace system

just pulled it out of the box

it was very well packed and the item was safely transported covered in newspaper, cardboard and Styrofoam popcorn

the paint looks good no runs and very little scratches anywhere

in fact the paint still smelled fresh when i pulled it out of the plastic bags some of them were in

im not sure if they test fit them to see if they are proper or not

one thing is that the system doesnt include an instruction sheet or has markings like L or R or front or rear on the metal pieces them selves (except a piece of tape stating on the cross bar "front, top rh") which worries me a bit .. but i am guessing the pieces can only go in one way ...

i can also see from the stock photos that the trunk floor panel needs to be modified ... so a template or measurement would be nice to get a general thought of where to cut out if wanting to install it back in like i do

but i will be in contact with dccolegrove

but it looks good and sturdy .... looks much smaller than i had invsioned for the price tag

unfortantely my car is at a shop right now trying to fix up the problem of it not passing emissions ... so i cant install it for a couple days ...

i can take pics of the item themselves and will take more pics when i do in fact install it and will also give my opinion on its insulaton simplicity and the final outcome of use

I just had mine installed by the man himself (very cool guy and his work is top notch not to mention that hes got one of the sickest e30s I ever saw). The floor pan has two rubber caps infront of the spare hole that just pop out and those pins just slide in, the sound deadening stuff does have to be removed. There is a right and left to all the stuff I'm not sure how thats determined.

I was going to review it but don't have the pictures developed yet. I am really happy with what it does for the car. The whole thing feels tighter now.

I'm going back for the front bar very soon.

Sent you a PM with a number to get in touch when you go to install.

Sorry about the lack of an install sheet I'm working on it...I'll boot John into stamping R&L on the parts but it's not too hard to tell them apart.

And No, you wont need to modify the trunk...

      And Max...

      Glad you like our brace...

And film is great but... just a little obsolte ;)

I drove MadMax's car before the brace and this weekend I drove it after and I am impressed. His car is gutted and the one difference I noticed immediately was that it is much quieter back there and the herky jerky over speed bumps is gone.

It's definitely a hefty piece of equipment and looks really good. The welds are super clean and the finish is superb.

It does take up some space though, so you guys with the big boom bass boxes might not be so happy with it.

Has anybody else get one of these?

            How hard was the install?

Not likely, the seller has been removed from the site.

I want to like this thing so bad for some reason. I've been waiting for one of these threads for a while cause i'm actually thinking of getting one of the x-braces, but the fact that every reply is from a newbie just kills the credibility

I had the rear strut brace way back when it was sold by SBI and alot cheaper. it was definetly a quality piece.

I see all the controversy about the guy but the stuff he makes is prime. Just wanted to know about the install if there was any pics or something.

Yeah but, what I was asking is how well it installed any fitting issues? the things sellers never really tell you.

Yeah it is pricey but so are real BBS and lots of other top end stuff.
