    Blaupunkt SD48

Another review by me to beef up the product review section

I had different headunit in the past but this is my first SD card based HU.

Pros - this thing is LIGHT!. maybe 3 ounces, okay maybe exaggerating, but his thing feels like nothing. Looks nice and OEM. Color adjustment is just about perfect. SD track loads relatively fast, takes about 5 sec after initial boot up.

Cons - instruction is a complete diaster compare to the the panasonic I had. You better know some wiring before attempting this. The dimmer function doesnt work with our cars. Slow scroll through the tracks, takes about a sec blip to switch songs, if you dont know hwere you track is, its could be annoying. The Iron Man like blue light on the knob is a huge distraction. but could be block or tinted with some skillz.

Overall - its great headunit, look stock, no CD, and people wont try to jack it, it blends in the console very well.

I've had mine for a few months and like it. I think its blends very well with our dash and is a great choice for the e30.

How does the file structure work with these SD players? Can you create playlists?

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

you can create the multiple layers of folders on your computer and when you load it, it will select. It takes a little while to change folders. Like 3 to 5 sec. But yea, you can create playlist if you put them in the same folder.

Hmmm. Do you think the lengthy transitions are due to the card quality or the deck's reader speed?

I have 2 2gig sd ultra that I swap in and out . I think its more with the reader than the card. Its not that bad once you know to wait a few secodn between each folder. It will contineu to play the track you are on, and switch over when it does. It doesnt just go silent.

Ohhh, that definitely makes a big difference. The delay is only when changing folders right, not songs?

yea, the song changes has a 1 sec delay. not instant but not bothersome. If you shuffle fast through yoru folder it takes about a sec to cue up. If you change folder, it will take 3 - 5 sec. but the song yo uare on will keep playing until it switch over.

I also got one of these recently. I agree the finish goes well with the rest of the dash. I wanted it because it looks so basic, I don't think it will catch the eyes of crack heads. It is pretty cool to have a non cd stereo. The thing is really light.

The light on the volume knob doesnt bother me as much as how slick the knob is. I had a blaupunkt bahamas mp46 and it had a little rubber ring around the knob for grip. That unit also had a great display and 3 line display for navigating mp3 cds.

I guess my old unit was too nice because it got jacked, fucking crack heads. I had the stereo in there good so they broke the whole panel around the unit.

I like the SD48, it is very light and very low key, just wish the sd speed was faster and navigation was better.

ONE THING TO NOTE IS THAT IT ONLY WORKS WITH 2GIG SD CARDS OR SMALLER! (but you probably wounldn't want to navigate anything bigger than that)

EDIT: Just wanted to add that the aux input is really quite in some devices, it might just be the device. Seems like blaupunkt has a problem with quiet aux inputs.

West German BMWs, they just don't make the same as they did before the wall fell.
^Case in point: Auto-Repair Technology. Everytime my car isn't starting or acting up I let it sit, sometimes for an hour, sometimes for days. But it eventually fixes itself.

i love this headunit, it blends in perfectly. I also have the ipod adapter which works flawlessly (uses the ipod for navigation) and also keeps it charged. definitely recommend.
