For the double shear selector rod, how come it says that it fits e30 model years 1982 - 1991, but when I click on the link, it says it requires an '89 or newer selector joint?

The earlier cars just switch to the later selector joint. It's a cheap part and relatively easy to change.

The difference is the earlier ones use a asymmetric joint. The extra billet stainless steel it would take to carve a DSSR to fit that joint would double the price of the DSSR. So there's a choice... make the DSSR cost $260, or require the purchase of a $35 selector joint. I think changing the joint is a better solution!

Replacing the selector joint require dropping the transmission, no?

And also, for those of us that have the harmonic balancer on the guibo... will we need to bend the DSSR to avoid contact? I had to do that with my stock selector when I installed my z3 shifter.

By the way Rob, I called you 2 days ago re: the brake lines - just ended up ordering it from you online with this coupon code, as well as a SS clutch line. Great deal!

Definitely not! It can be done with the transmission in place.

With the Evo3 for 1986+ cars, that is not a problem at all. As part of the design, the geometry of the shifter pivot points is corrected so that the lower pivot is in the same position as the OE shifter... therefore the selector rod geometry does not change, and there is no interference with the guibo.

... but now you see one of the problems with the alternate factory shifter swaps such as the Z3 shifter. The linkage geometry is distorted.

Hmm just did some reading on it. Looks like the driveshaft and tranny need to be dropped to replace the linkage... I think I will pass for now. I still have nightmares from replacing the carrier bushing and that damned bitch clip.

It is much easier than changing the carrier clip/"bitch clip"... it's the part below it, plenty of space around it. You can see the whole thing, it's not blocked like the carrier clip.

It is a little easier if you drop the transmission support brace, that lets you angle the entire transmission down for even better access.

Being added early next week. Current pricing (which means if someone pulls this post out of an archive 10 years in the future, the price may change) for front pads are $71/set and rears are $69/set.

Just call me on Monday and I'll put your order in directly.
