    M42 under drive pulley interest

Im working on a set of drawings for an underdrive pulley set for the m42 w/v-belts... Im pretty sure that the m42's had v's and the m44 had a serp?... These aren't anywhere to be found... I will probably have a set built for the race car either way, but am curious if these would be something you fellow 318is'ers would be interested in...

    Pulley Weights in lbs

    Stock / Mine
    P/S .81 .28
    Alt 1.0 .34
Will work on the Water pump tomorrow

These are in stock diameters as well... Im interested in doing an underdrive set with app. a 10% reduction... I guess if there is interest I will start having these made... They would be machined out of 6061 aluminum and probably just raw, to keep costs low (come on machined alum. looks sweet) So thoughts? concerns? let me know here folks, I can imagine these will be pricey and probably come in at around what other kits for the m50's and such are coming in at (250-300) So when I get the drawings done I will take them to a few local shops and get some qoutes in batches of 10 probably...

Ive considered looking at options for the dampener too, However with the crank pick up and the machining that would be needed, its probably not viable...

Not sure if your saying thats too much or if thats a good deal... lol but im gonna go with the first one... Its basically what your other BMW kits are going for, and chances are I wont be getting these machined for much less...

And I started a thread in the 'S42' thread in the e36 forum at bimmerforums, however bimmerforums does not allow me to hotlink yet as Im a new member... feel free to help me out by adding to that thread or letting others know...

Lets get some input here fellas... Its going to be a lot different if I present this to a shop and say I only need 3 sets, or if I say I need 20

my brother is an engineer, and he also has access to all the machines needed to make the pully's and can make them for a lot less then 250$

it may be 250$ for one set, but it will be a whole lot less for 10 or 20 sets

I would highly recommend you make a set of underdrive pulleys. There is no real gain from going to a lighter pulley set. While there is some gain, it is negligible compared to underdriving the accessories.

I would be going to an underdrive set... I started drawing these up as stock size and will go from there.

You need longer belts with underdrive pulleys, right?
