What do you guys think about navigation?

My dad got his stolen from his truck. Broke right in and took it. Fine, prevent theft and take it with you wherever you go? It's a nuisance.

What are your thoughts? anybody have one??

My friend has the Motorola Q. He has the navigation package for it, I will try to find the name, but it is just like the tomtom (it talks you through directions and can get to different destinations (chinese restaurants ect.)). A holder can be bought to set it up by the window also. Its an awesome system and I know that nav is available for most newer phones. Security and realiabilitly in one.

Just explaining another option that you/your dad could explore. Might want to look into it alittle more, ooo..and don't buy the navy package from your cell provider, you will get ass rapped for what they make you pay a month.

I have the TOMTOM 910 and love it. Although I was pissed when I found out four months after I bought mine that they dropped the price on it but oh well( I paid $749 I think)... Even after the fact it is alot easier to use than the garmins and other brands out there IMO and the 910 has bluetooth capability and a MP3 player and picture storage as well good up to 10gb of use !!! All you need to do is use a mini plug through rca jacks to tap into a newer radio for mp3 use. It also will use your cell phone if capable to inform you of weather conditions and traffic conditions of where you are at currently.

I was told that TomTom was made by garmin.

I had the TomTom OneXL, and didn't like it. god rid of it and bought a Garmin Streetpilot 7200.

A little higher on the price, but i love it. it is too big for the e30 tho. gotta use it in the bigger cars (7" Screen) and a remote.

My co-worker bought a Garmin streetpilot. Preferred the features compared to the TomTom. I haven't personally compared the 2. The Garmin works great. Seems to work better than the stock nav unit in my truck. Less confusing.

Nav is great. Once you have it, you feel lost without it.
I had my unit get stolen on a trip I took about 4 months ago. I am now in the process of getting a USB gps unit for my CarPC in the vert. I have an 8" widescreen in the console, so it will display on that and play though the stereo. Also, you cant tell I have anything installed when the car is parked so theft is less of an issue.

Anyone have the new blackberry 8800? It's got GPS onboard, and it looks like something if I mount in a cell phone holder on the dash will be like tom tom. My 2-year contract is up with cingular next month, and I'm thinking of getting it when I switch back to t-mob (no cingular coverage at my house).
