the earlier post I posted on the link to bimmerforums are the new 17s. They have 5 lug cast and four lug holes were drilled. They are also nonhubcentric. Just FYI.

They never made the 16 until this year... so I'm not certain why you said they are never made for 4 lug app. I would assume they are only made for four lug application.

We told the factory to make the 16" Kopi wheels specifically for the E30, ie. 4 lug design and with a 57.1mm hub diameter.
The factory is closed until the middle of January and I will have more information when they re-open.

We do not have any of the older 17" Kopi wheels in stock so I cannot answer your question.
Very honestly, I did not notice any difference but then again I did not pay much attention to how it looked without the center cap attached.
The photo you are referring to-I am not positive that it is of one of our wheels.
There was a company in China making a similar wheel too-it may be their wheel.
Maybe someone on the forum that purchased our wheels a few years ago can clarify this.

      Mel,

please answer the following questions in specifics.

will the center look like a five lug, drill for a four lug? Or will the 5 lug indentation not be there on the 16s?

Obviously, if the casting of the 5 lug is still there, everyone would be ashame to run without caps, because it would look like they bought cheap wheels and got drilled for four lug.

The other wheel pictured that came up on the forum does not have the wierd 5 lug casting. Are the wheels coming in looking like that, are those the wheels you always have gotten? Or are you saying, you have been selling the wheel with 5 lug casting look and drill for a four lug for the past 5 years?

Please give accurate description of this product, as it seem that there is alot of discretancies of what to expect. I'm only really interested in the 16s, so if you can tell me if the new batch will be "yaddi yaddi yada" it would help me make my decision.

      Thank you, for your patience.

I posted a picture of the old wheels ON YOUR CAR, and you are saying they could be Chinese replicas? Your story just keeps changing, a classic sign of a chronic liar caught in his own web.

The photo you posted was not too clear as the car is in motion.
If the wheels were made like that 5 years ago, then I apologise.
I really did not pay much attention to how the wheels looked without the cap attached and really did not think it was a big deal as the wheels were designed to be used with the center caps.
This is the photo I am referring to:

we want the centers to look like they used to. it seems that most people go capless. they look good that way imo. and the ones is the pic are REAL kopis. i believe that's Mr 325's old car.

Can someone who bought their wheels from mel in the past make a chart with pictures of both wheels outlining the different hubs so that mel can stop evading the issue. And mel how can you miss the smooth hub you offered before and tell the difference? Don't you inspect and get to know your product?? Come one that's another lame evasive excuse.

As we do not have any of the older Kopi wheels in stock, I will have to agree that there was a change in the hub design - this from all the posts above and the photos supplied.
The wheels are shipped to us with the caps attached and yes, we do inspect every wheel for finish, damage etc. but we do not remove the caps to inspect what's behind the caps.
I am not trying to evade the issue at all, just stating the facts.
If you don't believe me, so be it.
This change only seems to be the case with the 17" Kopi wheels. The 15" 4 lug Kopi wheels have a round hub like in the photo of the older Kopi wheel (I just checked them).
As mentioned before, I have to wait until the factory re-opens to get some answers regarding the 17" Kopi wheels.
In the meantime we have been selling these wheels (with free shipping) as most customers run them with the caps attached and do not find them offensive.
BTW-those that participated in the Group Buy only paid $699 for a set ($137 off our regular set price).
The free shipping we are offering now equates to a savings of $120-$140 a set.
This makes the cost of a set approx. $700 or $175 a wheel.

We've shipped our Kopi wheels to customers in Germany and could not have without the TUV certificate.

No worries T3RD, AMS's policy is clear:

"Any defective item will be exchanged or can be returned for a full refund."

One thing I find funny about T3RD's wheels.. they are hubcentric, despite the 5lug casting. How is that for product consistency?

I got these from AMS 4-5 years ago.

I remember having to order a new kopi a couple years ago and the diameter of the inside of the hub changed causing the wheel to rub on my front brake pad carrier.

Yes-the factory obviously changed the hub to accept 4 or 5 lug applications - thus the difference.
This was only recently brought to our attention on the forum, not by the factory.
I'm waiting for the factory to open next week to get more details.
With the caps attached, they look the same.

We've heard of slight rubbing on aftermarket brake pads (usually new pads) - this goes away after a short while or the pad backing can be filed down very slightly on the corner to eliminate the rubbing. It seems that aftermarket pads are slightly thicker than the stock pads.

T3rd, Do you have a side view of your car? From what it looks like in your bottom picture I don' think its even very noticable. Yes, its noticable because we have read the thread but did you notice when you recieved and put them on? That doesn't look terrible like some are describing.
