Update (and a Q):
Received chip in today's mail (maybe start a third column here = Received?), which is good. But have a question. I was looking to buy the 91 octane chip and ordered accordingly via web site, but my chip reads as follows:
E30 175.7k1-93
E.A.T ULTRACHIPS

Top board? Are you sure you have a 173 ECU and not a 153 ECU?
If you have a 153 ECU, you'll need to get a 173 ECU instead. Easy enough to find either on eBay or in the classifieds here.Cornering is like bringing a woman to climax.

153 has the same internals as the 173 i think, as well as the 380. but the 524 has an extra circuit board connected by ribbon cable. i also understand that they are all compatible except the 153.
You mean you cant get the case open or the internals dont look exactly like this when you open the case?
if you cant get the case open, arent you prying the aluminum tabs back and then pulling the casing open? its really easy.
if you cant seperate the two boards... i dont have any experience with this first hand but i cant imagine it should take much.Comment

Yea turns out I have a 153 :( I didn't check since I thought I read all late models have 173s. So installing a 173 would be just plug and play right? I think I'll just go pick one up at pick-n-pull tomorrow.

No there is another board on top of that. So 173s only have one?
