    German Audio Specialties

    Ok, I know that this business and its owner Luke are fairly popular on this site. However, my dealings with GAS and Luke have been nothing but a big disappointment and anyone thinking of purchasing anything from GAS may want to know what they're getting into.

    In March 2012, I saw a post here on R3V for a subwoofer box for an E30 convertible. Mentioned and pictured in the write up for the installation of the box was how good the accompanying amp rack looked with the box. Wanting to have a system that looked as good as it was supposed to sound, I sent a PM to inquire on availability and price. Luke e-mailed me back and we came to a price of $325.00 shipped for both the box and the amp rack. I paid in full, $325.00 as agreed, via Paypal on March 21.

    Now I get it that we're talking about a 24 year old car here. I knew it would take some time to get a specialty part like a trunk box built for this vehicle. I never expected anything of quality to be a cash and carry type of deal. I emailed Luke once on April 14 to inquire how things were coming along. He replied that they had just moved and that the box would be on the road in the next day or so.

    UPS dropped off a big heavy box on my door step on May 7, and I was ecstatic! Bass for a car that shouldn't have any at all! So I peel off the cardboard and the woofer box looks amazing! Obviously over engineered and fits perfectly, but where's the amp rack that is supposed to look equally gorgeous and make the set up complete?

    I email Luke who tells me "They are not shipping yet, we are experiencing technical difficulties." ... umm ok, I thought these would have been built at the same time, but whatever, things happen ... I'll get it soon, right?

    May becomes June and June beomes July, no amp rack, no date of when I can expect what I've paid for, no communication unless I initiate it and even then two or three messages are usually ignored. By this time, I've been assured multiple times "it's almost done, it'll be done this week, it'll be done this weekend, tomorrow, etc." Here we are now in OCTOBER ... no amp rack, and my latest FB messages as well as a post here on R3V have no responses. Now, I'm finding there are others that are in the same boat some have been waiting longer than I have, but 6 months is long enough for me. I figure that this will mean that I will NEVER get my amp rack, but I have to "say something" and this post is my way of doing just that.

      Sorry to hear this. I have been talking with them about a setup. Hopefully they will chime in and elaborate.

      It would also be nice to hear from others experiencing the same problems.

        Very similar story here. After carefully outlining my goals, I agreed to pay $2,000. for a system minus the head unit. Sent down payment of $1,250.00 via Paypal in mid May with delivery promised the last week of May.

        End of May I get a phone call pleeding for the remaining balance of $750.00 with shipment promised within two weeks. I paid the remaining balance in full. Then the correspondence basically stopped despite repeated emails, PM's and many, many unreturned phone calls.

        May, June, July, August, September. One sporadic but outrageous excuse after another and NOTHING SHIPPED!

        Because of the time lapsed, Paypal won't help me but fortunately, my credit card company did. They refunded my original $1,250. I haven't gone after the remaining $750 as I'm giving Luke until the end of the month to respond (still no word from him yet). Visa said they will gladly refund the money if I initiate another dispute.

        I too, have been in contact with other buyers that have been ripped off by this seller.

        Let the buyer beware.

        He has posted a response of sorts in the Car Audio section. Decide for yourself.

          I was about to purchase a luke box but after some research it was obvious their business was "on the ropes". Hope you guys get your products/money back. Their is absolutely no reason for a delay like this...none.

              This fucking blows. Too bad. The product is fucking amazing though. Mine hits 120db on 180 watts. Hope you get your product.

                Luke is a good guy and a good friend. Hopefully all this gets resolved with optimal results for both parties.

                  Guys, this is a travesty and worse than that, it is all true.

                  I am trying my damndest to get this fixed, but right now, we are up against the wall.

                  This forum has supported us for years now and I worked my ass off to build a great reputation...and now we are failing miserably. Not trying to make excuses, but things are really really bad for us right now.


                  You guys who sent money have all been wonderful and patient. I owe you the world. I am so sorry I have failed you so miserably..and not a day goes by that I don't think about what I owe you guys.

                  I will get these products shipped out, one way or another. Can't say when, as I am still trying to keep a roof over our heads and the utilities on.

                  Any of you guys who have been thinking about getting a sub, please, give us a chance. We are doing our very best and have shipped literally hundreds of boxes on time, that is where we got our reputation from in the first place, right?

                  Even during all this mess, we have still built, sold and shipped well over 100 boxes this year. That may sound like a lot, but it really isn't. It sure isn't enough to keep us afloat, no matter how hard we work at it.

                  Again, guys, I am so sorry.

                  I really am trying to get this resolved.

                    Luke,

                    I have absolutely not much to bring to the table here, but I am someone that was interested in purchasing from you and might still do. I know I might be oversimplifying the situation, but this is what I would do if I was in your shoes:

                    1. Create a new thread and there give a quick simple explanation of what has been happening (maybe even include a link to these threads).
                    2. List all the products that you have in stock along with how many of each and keep this quantities updated.
                    3. Maybe even place screen names in the thread of whomever you sell a box to, starting from lets say tomorrow and ask they mention how happy they are with the transaction.
                    4. Try and PM all these guys that you owe parts to and give them some hope by coming up with a plan of action. Lets say, every 10% of any new sales will go towards buying materials for their part or towards a refund.

                    I have only been on these forums for a short time but can tell that you care about the forum and try to help whenever possible. We all go through rough patches and all these guys need is some hope that you at least have a plan. Regarding new possible customers, like me, all we want is transparency in order to know what will happen after we place the order. It would be nice if we knew your actual stock numbers.

                      Let me chime in, his products are the best bar none, i am a proud owner of multiple products of his. Luke is a stand up guy and i dont have a doubt in my mind he will correct every order.

                        I have EXACTLY the same opinion. He will not sleep until everything is correct. Any question you ask whether it is about fitment, installation, or any other aspect of audio he is quick to answer.

                        His boxes fit and sound like nothing you can imagine. It is hard being a small company and keeping HUGE crowds happy while still tuning out a top notch product time after time by hand.

                          I dont have a dog in this fight but I will say that I havent spent a dime with luke and he has gone out of his way to help me on many issues.

                          I will be placing an order,im sure that Luke will make this right...

                            As a GAS customer, I am disheartened to hear about the problems at "the home of killer e30 audio".
                            I lost my job of 10 years at the height (depth?) of the recession, April 2008, and took another job at 1/2 the money, but with the potential for decent growth. I worked my ass off (and still do) and this year will make almost double what I did the last year at my old job.
                            Why a cool story bro? Just a small example that sometimes hard work will pay off.
                            I truly hope you can get your business where you want it to be.

                              Guys, as an option to restore the company to stability, I have taken a job as an Installer at Car Toys in Olympia. I am awaiting news on the background check (which will come back clean, I ain't no hood!) and should be working as soon as next week.

                              In the meantime, I owe a ton of boxes and stuff right now...so we need some sales in a bad way!

                              So, if any of you guys want to give us a chance, we are now ready to get more stuff done. We need money for materials, so I plan on offering some discounts and stuff just to get us back on track.

                              If anyone seeing this is even remotely thinking about getting a subwoofer box from us, please let me know. We want to get all these issues resolved quickly but we need sales to get us through.

                              Again, thank you R3V for all the support. Help me make this right for the guys I have left hanging. One way or another I will find a solution, but if we had some cash, it would be much quicker.

                              Oh, a quick aside: our E46 box will be starting development tomorrow. We will be doing an introductory special, so if you have an E46 and want a subwoofer, please get in touch!
