lifter ticking - driving me crazy

In my E34 it seems to be getting not louder, but more frequent and even in the colder temps where it didn't use to tick. Suspecting my oil pump is starting to go out. Once it warms up a bit I'm going to drop the pan and hopefully replace it.

Oil pumps don't really go out in these cars; one can easily hook up a pressure guage if suspecting the pump failing.

If your lifters are ticking they are just worn; lifters are a wear item and designed to be replaced when the cylinder head is rebuilt.
