    running rough

So the other day I got my 93 m50 running in my e30. Took a little while to get running and idling on its own. Now that is it idling somewhat good, and it seems to rev up quick and sounds okay when it is. When the car is running and holding at a certin RPM not really sure what RPM it is but if i were to guess i would say 3.5k, it is pretty rough sounds like it is missing and poping. Right now I only have ss rep headers on so no o2 sensor. I'm going to buy new spark plugs and a o2 sensor now, hoping that will take care of the problem. What else could this be?

No o2, it's in open loop running rich.

Put a O2 in, if it still does something weird after that, then start worrying.

Well if you didn't change the plugs, do it.

My car has no o2 right now and it runs like that, really poppy.

Yeah I forgot to thank you, I appreciate the help that you gave me, I was able to figure most of the wiring out with help from my father. I just have essentials to get the motor running, I still have to hook up some sensors and what not. Ill probably PM you to see if our cars match up if thats cool with you, I think that will help me out a lot. Thanks again man!

Possibly a bad MAF sensor. How does it do when easing out from 1st/2nd?

No slave cylinder, I let someone use mine when my car was never close to running and they needed one, the guy never gave it back nor did he repay me for it....

I should be getting one in from the mail sometime this week though and I can tell you.

It shouldn't be running that rough minus the O2.

I would look for a vacuum leak first.

What sensors do you have to hook up?????

How do you expect to have a good-running engine without hooking up all the sensors?

                            ^^^what he said

My MAF was bad when I first got my swap going and it would stall out when i touched the gas very very slightly, i would have to gun it up to 2k ish and ease out of the clutch to go, or pop the clutch. It ran rough and I got all sorts of popping below 4-5k ish. After that Vanos would kick in like Vtec. After I replaced it, it ran fine after that. I kind of miss that sudden surge of power though :D

So def look for that when you can drive it. Or test the MAF with a voltmeter.

Oh, and if it is that. Just leave your MAF unplugged until you get a new one. It will run a lot better.
