    M52b28 Swap Confirmation Needed

    Ok spent the last week researching a swap as my m20's timing belt just took a dump on me. I never liked the m20 much (probably why I never did the belt) so I am going for a swap. Goals are 200-220 rwhp out of the new setup. Below are my notes on what I have learned and have questions about. Any help is greatly appreciated...

    Engine:
    97/98 Z3 M52b28 w/ aluminum block
    OBDII
    EWS
    S52 Cams
    OBDI Manifold (M50)
    All Accessories from M52b28
    Need:
    2 Keys (Preferably) }
    ECU }
    Antenna }
    Signal Booster }All From Donor Car
    ODBII Engine Harness
    E21 320i Brake Booster (modded length)
    E32 735i Master Cylinder
    E28 535i Motor Mounts
    E34 Oil Pan, Pickup, Gasket, Dipstick, Tube
    E36 Mount Arms (same as Z3?)
    E34 Throttle Cable
    E36 M3 Exhaust Manifold (necessary?)
    E30 Radiator, Overflow Tank (318is Rad/Tank?)
    Electric Fan (probably use Volvo)
    Tune for Cams & Delete Rear o2 Sensors
    Rewiring at C101 (or buy adapter)

    Transmission:
    97 Z3 5spd (no overdrive)
    Need:
    M20 Trans Mounts & Trans X Bracket
    E28 533i 3:25LSD (output shafts?)
    E36 Driveshaft (328 & z3 same?)

    Are my notes correct? Is that what I am looking at for the swap... plus small parts of course like hoses and fittings? Again thanks in advance. My brain hurts from all the swap threads and of course THE DOHC thread.

    They can delete the EWS as well when you send the ECU off. So dont bother with

      Really? That's very good to know. Now I don't have to look for a wrecked z3 to take everything from. Should be a bunch easier to find everything separately.

          E21 Booster, 2002 booster, 944 booster (all moded) or a e30 ix booster unmoded
          E32 735i Master Cylinder (only applies if you want a bigger MC)
          E36 M3 Exhaust Manifold (I would suggest some of the ebay SS knockoffs)
          E30 Radiator, Overflow Tank (yep fits fine)
          Tune for Cams & Delete Rear o2 Sensors and EWS delete
          Rewiring at C101 (or buy adapter) -THR/AKG adapters are made for obdI and the check engine light will not work on OBDII


          e21 Trans Mounts & e30 Trans X Bracket
          E28 533i 3:25LSD (take flanges and diff cover from a medium case e30 diff. Output should be 4 bolt connector)
          E36 Driveshaft (needs to be 4 bolt... IIRC only the e36 97+ m3 and e36 328 driveshafts work)

            the obd2 exhaust manifold is allready the same between 328/m3....i'm not sure about the z3.

            and if your looking for 220whp...I guess you better go to a dynojet.

            I havent dynoed my stock m52b28 yet. Gonna do a before and after s52 cams/m50 manifold/tune(with the after part being next year).

              Mongule: You really think 220rwhp is on the high end? I'd be happy with anything over 200rwhp really... lol but as is almost always the case with hp, the more the better.

                Why not stock Z3 tranny mounts and stock Z3 diff.

                  e21 mounts are beefier and the z3 diff is 3.15, plus good luck finding one!

                    No some people have dynoed that I just mean better to sets your sights on 200whp and be pleasantly surprised with higher then the other way around.
                    But I meant it as a joke :).

                    I'm also hoping for similar gains so if you get 220whp man good show I can expect something like that.

                        LOL I'm sure you'll be done before I am... not planning on swapping til early next year, unless I get a SMOKIN deal on an engine/trans. I just want to have a comprehensive plan and time frame laid out for the swap.
