 Question 2:

Pic #4, what is this black wire for that comes thru with the main power cable??

 Question #3:

Pic #6, what is this connector for from the E36 harness? Its called "running losses" on the diagrams. Sorry, Im brain dead and stupid tonight. :-/

 Question #4:

Pic #8 & 9, what are the two wires, one red and one black that combine into one sheath and then goto the E30 fuse box. Obviously the red one is positive, but what is the other one???I like to build things with metal n stuff

very cool. Congrats on getting it so far, good luck with getting it started.

Question 1: Yes I believe those are positive and negative, on the inside, if its a brown sheethed wire, its a ground.
Question 2: Not sure what that wire is, its on the chassis side right? I believe mine had one as well, no idea what it is.
Question 3: No idea what that is, I don't recognize it from anything I plugged in. I think I left it disconnected, but honestly don't recognize it enough to say what it is or what I did with it for any certainty.
Question 4: Other one, I think it was another positive wire. Don't quote me on that though, I'll let someone else test that, I'll check my car tomorrow in the daylight if no one answers that one tonight.Last edited by 318isbmw; 04-30-2009, 08:25 PM.Comment

 1. 318isbmw is right. One is a power, one is a ground. The one closest to the diagnostic connector should be the ground, and if you peel back the insulation a bit you can confirm this.

 2. It is a fusible link-protected wire that runs parallel to the main power wire, and originates from the trunk. It supplies power to the DME, fuel pump relay terminal 30 (always hot), and the diagnostic connector on a 325i (ETK page 0670-2). I am fairly certain I hooked up the red power wire shown in picture 3 to it.

 3. I dunno.

 4. Both supply power to the fusebox, and attach to the E30 starter cable. You'll see on the starter cable there are two bolts. The cable with the larger of the two eyelets gets secured to the bolt that that pinches the battery terminal to the battery cable.

The cable with the smaller of the two eyelets gets attached to the little bolt that screws in to the side of the starter cable. It should have a toothed lockwasher on it, and I think it has an 8mm head. Comment
