    Coolant temp sensor

    Hey guys,

    I just bought an 1987 325is with a 98 m52 swapped into it.
My car has a m3 dash. I cannot for the life of me get the coolant temp gauge to work. I have tried the stock m3 temp sensor and it has not worked even when i switched the plug around... Anyone have any tips? I have checked the wiring, it works fine.

My oil temp gauge does not work either. The previous owner said that it has a 88 oil temp sensor but I have not confirmed it.

      I have this part.

It is installed as shown, there is coolant in there every time I remove it to change sensor, etc. I just dont get why it doesnt work. Do I need to ground the actual part or should it just ground from screwing in?

I'm pretty sure you need to run a separate ground from the $49 manifold to somewhere on the block/head.

How did you all run the ground?

There is a screw on the machined piece. Crimp a ring terminal to both sides of a wire. Attach one side to the machined piece. Attach the other to the front of the valve cover, where the fuel rail ground attaches.

              Thanks guys,

I dont remember seeing a screw but I will double check. I tested a ground on it tonight and that was my problem.

                    Search.

You can find the answer to just about every question you could possibly have on 24v swaps without starting a single, new thread.

Just for clarification, my sensor manifold had no screw in it. I just ran a clamp around it for the necessary ground. Works like a charm. Now for the oil temp gauge haha.
