How hard is it to install a 6 speed tranny?

    I have a 6 speed E36 tranny available.

What are the main problems in doing such a project? Do I have to physically modify the 'tranny tunnel'?

Do I have to fabricate a special tranny support bracket or do I use the E36 one? WHat about tranny mounts? What driveshaft?

    Thanks!

Search for a thread started by BeirBrennerE30. He did a good write-up on this a while back.

If you want to get rid of the transmission and ship it State-side, I know a guy who would be interested in purchasing it from you. He just mentioned today that he is looking for one.

Is there any difference in installing the E46 six speed tranny vs the E36 M3.2 Evo tranny(the Getrag 226)?

I ask because I have the the Getrag 226 from the Euro M3 evo.

No difference other than the flywheel and clutch. The E46 tranny has a slightly bigger input shaft so you need a new flywheel, clutch and PP.

                  OP,
I am going to be doing a 6 speed swap as well. I have been looking into everything and i have gathered that you will need a euro shifter linkage, euro or custom tranny mount (provisions already in the chassis) an e46 clutch, the flywheel is the same. You could even get away with just swapping the clutch disc, if you have a recent or high perf clutch already. The Drive-shaft will have to be modded, you will have to have it shortened and balance...

The install seems pretty straight forward though...
