I am getting into this myself. Can I run the expansion tank to the middle nipple on the metal pipe and the heater core off of the end of the metal pipe? Seems like it would accomplish the same thing. My TB hose has already been welded shut.

    Thanks

Holy thread resurrection x2, yes there is a 10mm bolt that keeps the pipe from moving

How do you keep the metal hose pushed forward in to the port on the front cover?
I think I am missing a bracket or something?

Dudes, no need to splice hoses or do any nipple conversions. When using M42 radiator and OBD2 metal coolant pipe just connect the two with this factory hose 11531289377

    Looks like this

You cut it between the two 90* bends and it fits perfectly. Looks totally factory because it is. If you're doing the swap into an early body e30 you probably already have this hose.

Any reason you want to keep the metal pipe? I found working with the spider hose was a lot easier.

I think I'll be modifying the harness holder, then. I want to keep the pipe.

This ^^ I just did this swap. I wanted to use the metal pipe for reasons mentioned above, but the OBD 1 harness/ ICV bracket , at least for me, was a no go in that combo.
Made my own nipple, or you can spend $35 at BWrld / Turner and buy aluminum adapter/epoxy. Of course I did this only after fully prepping crimping /soldering off the tube, painting the pipe.
I cut off the 'oring' end w/ about 2" of pipe and JB'd it into the front cover. make sure you clean remove paint roughen surfaces etc. used the JB marine slow cure much higher temp/psi rating but takes 15 + hrs to cure.
Trimmed 1/2" or so off the molded end of the rubber spyder hose, (pipe is smaller by a couple of mm) thin film of good stuff on pipe nipple lets the rubber slide on nicely and set my hose clamp. GL
