I have a s50 in my e30 and i'm having a little bit of trouble. After the car warms up i have a power lose. The only thing i could think of is that the intake starts to pick up heat from the coolant lines when they heat up- yes i need a heat shield but would this make big noticeable lose in power? Also i feel like I have holes in my power at certain RPM's. for instance, in third gear from 2500-3000 i would not feel much power- at times. What kind of symptoms does a vanos unit give off when it is getting tired?

That sounds a lot like your vanos but the computer switches between closed loop and open loop as it warms up.
Let me do some quick research. The vanos will have a REALLY funny feeling since it will keep the cam retarded if it feels that it is mechanically jammed.Past Car : E30 S50 6 Speed 5 Lug 3.73
