    S52 Drama

Well the deal i was looking to score didn't happen, the engine came to the guy I was buying it from in pieces. The orignal owner was complaining of mid range detionation, and elected to replace the engine with another used instead of figuring out the problem :boggled: The engine appearently has 90k miles.

So i have the option of purchasing the engine in pieces and reassembling into a engine, and i was thinking a mild rebuild, rings/bearings chains, rails. And then just send out the head to VAC? for headwork. Maybe put in cams...maybe not?

Anyone done a s52 rebuild and know approx cost? I'm guessing around 2-3k with headwork from vac

Or i could try and locate another engine.

Do you know of any engines around your area and willing to ship?

    Whats your guy's thoughts.

Just buy a low mileage one, drive it til it pops, then rebuild. Don't get into the headache on top of the swap.

i agree with farbin. you can buy a good running s52 with less than 100,000 for well under 2k and probably even 1500. that is a hell of a lot cheaper than doing a rebuild.

I dropped mine in untouched besides maintanence. Its at 145k and the vanos is just now talking.

When it pops/blows up ill build it up. Looking toward FI when it does

I almost picked up a 48k s52 complete with DME and accessories w/ uncut harness for $1875.00

It can be found. Don't waste your time with a torn up pile of parts, unless you can score it for ~300.00 and then build it up at your leisure.

I did the same thing but mine has lower miles and a new head gasket. I have a garret and a holset waiting for it. I dont know what to use
