Trying to finish swap - Driveshaft Problem

I’m swapping in an M50 into a ’89 325i. I’m using the G260 trans and I thought that I was supposed to use the same drive shaft that was originally in the car. Obviously from the pictures it’s way too short, about a full inch. What am I doing wrong or missing?

I have heard of certain stock E30 driveshafts working with the swap, but it usually comes down to needing either a 96+ E36 driveshaft or the E30 M3 driveshaft, whether you use the stock tranny or the E36 tranny.

My friend ran into this issue with his swap and the stock Getrag. He ended up taking his driveshaft to a shop to have modified to fit.

Really, that's the first i heard. I read through ALL of the swap thread and most say match the trans with the driveshaft that came together. Thanks

No that won't work (obviously), you need 1/2 and 1/2 of e36 and e30 , just don't recall which is which ------- search as the info is in here.

I have read that in a few places but here's one....

for what its worth, ive seen several 24v swaps use getrag 260s and original driveshaft. i dont know what you did different to end up with the trans further forward, but its definitely not all swaps.

Have you tried loosening up the nut in the center and pulling the driveshaft out of the slip yoke?

I just assembled one using the stock 260 and the driveshaft that came out of the car with no issues. Granted mine is a 87 325i 4 door. Not that should make a difference.

I was able to lengthen the driveshaft to fit. Thanks for the help.

there's a surprising amount of telescoping-action to these driveshafts. kind of surprised me. glad to hear you found a no-cost solution :)
