    Tunnel Heat Shielding/Sound Deading

Just trying to figure out my heat shielding situation, did you guys remove all the heat shields/rubberish heat shielding on the firewall/tunnel?

If you did, did you put in self adhesive heatshield mat?

Just curious as to what you guys did.

I kept it all. Saw no need to remove something that didn't interfere with anything.

kept all mine for a long while but removed it when it turned to a track car. my passengers complain of a hot footwell so I'm going to put some metal sticky heat reflective stuff in there soon to see if there is an improvement.

Removed every last bit of the crumbling mess. Just keeps sand salt and mosture near the body which promotes RUST. Plus the extra noise is fll raze you know....

The conversion to a 24v in last few cars has been quieter than the M20's with the crude in place anyway.

I removed all of mine as it was deterioration and nasty, cleaned it all up and bought some thermo tec acoustic and heat barrier and am going to do the whole firewall and tunnel with it, pretty nice stuff and probably took atleast 10 lbs off the car doing it.

I removed mine because it was nasty too. Bought some stuff from Summit Racing. It was thermo something.

I installed it from the firewall all the way down to the end of the trans tunnel. Makes a huge difference in sound and heat in the car.

"Anything that doesnt make it go faster is only adding weight." I took it out. Havent had any issues or complaints worth mentioning.

+1 it also makes easyer to get the tranny out. I left mine in the first time and I could get to the top of bell housing so I had to drop the front subframe down to get to it.

Good point, didnt think of that. It does make getting at the bolts a breeze.

How did you guys take it off the blower motor cover? Seems to be completely glued on?

I took it off mine with a heat gun and a scraper on my first swap. Shaved it nice and smooth, painted it and realized that I needed it to mount my wiring harness cover. Needless to say I haven't bothered with it on any of my other swaps.

I removed the portion that was blocking the upper transmission bolts. It just made it easier to install / remove the transmission. I also used a heat gun to scrape off the insulation on the blower motor cover but didn't take off the mounts for the wiring harness cover. The majority of the insulation on the firewall is still there.
