drilled the head for temp, cant find tap size

OK so yesterday I drilled the head for the E30 coolant temp sensor (very easy just take your time) anyhow I bought a new FAE E30 coolant temp sensor and it threads fine into the other stock temp sensor location but i cant seem to find the right tap for it, went to 7/16 and its just a hair too small. Went to the best hardware store around here and they hjad aver 100 taps but they couldnt find the size.. Help!! what size is it?

yea, I went to napa and begged the guys in the machine shop to let me borrow their tap. I took the temp sensor in and they matched it.

    connections FTW!

I deleted my post which stated the incorrect thread. Let us know how the M12x1.25 works out!

I thought it was an M14? Which sensor are you using? There are 2 on the m20's. One that goes to the ECU and one to the dash.

Um. The blue sensor plugs into the one on the left, brown on the right? I used PN 12621710512.

I think you need to use the brown one, which is the one going to the dash temp gauge. It should be the single pole, M14 sender. You can check this by getting your car up to temp, and unplugging the sender. The guage should drop to zero. IIRC, the M14 thread has the same TPI as the M12, so going larger shouldn't be a problem. My head is tapped to M14, and I had also tapped it to M12 at first. Do a search and check on this though. I'm pretty sure I'm right.

By the way the sensor I have is the same part # as the blue BMW one it is just a cheaper one since its $8.50 and the bmw one is like $23
