    twin mass flywheel ?

Can someone tell me if all e36 5 speed trannys can with a( twin mass flywheel) ? I have one, but not sure I want to use it.Thanks up front for any help. Real oem shows twin mass . The machine shop needs a flywheel to put the engine back together and all i have is this( boat anchor) twin mass flywheel.

Yes they had a dual mass. I'd recommend ditching it for an aftermarket single mass. You can get a brand new steel one on ebay for roughly $200.

i used my dual mass fly from my mz3 donor car. i like it just fine. it had the largest clutch surface area available. it is lighter (slightly) than the stock m20 single mass that i have. provides a nice dampening effect when i dump the clutch. also you don't have to get the back side custom machined to clear the oil pan. in my opinion, if you have it, use it. you will be happy with it unless you are racing. in that case, go spend the 6 hundred bucks and buy an aluminum lightweight.

I've neve heard of a machine shop being able to shave down a dual mass flywheel.

Agreed. Nobody will even resurface a dual mass, let alone lighten it.

Okay good to know that's not going to happen. I think the machine shop has not seen the twin mass flywheel for some time now, Why cant you rework a twin mass? Is it because there is no way to turn it ?

Thanks again Mr 325, That F1 look's great, I have spent too much on this motor in the last few weeks. I will have to wait untill more work starts up and brings the $$$ back home .

Thats the 240mm flywheel! The stock e30/e36 325 setup is 228mm. The OP didn't say what size he had but I would assume 228mm.

I'm using the F1 flywheel with their 6-puck clutch and pressure plate. I couldn't be happier :)
