Check Engine Light

While i was going through the pin out for the bosch dme looking for the road speed signal input i came across a CHECK ENGINE LIGHT output on the dme.... out South African e30's dont have any check engine warning lights and was wondering if something could be hooked up to flash using this Output from the dme..

Does the dme throw out a signal if a fault is found.... road speed signal for instance then the light would flash? maybe on the check control light on the cluster?

should be in the cluster right above the service indicator. as far as i know there were only 2 types of E30 made, Euro and US spec, and they both had service lights, heck ive never seen a vehicle without one.
