Top Radiator Hose for 24v swap

    For RichB.
I'm posting these pics in response to a PM regarding my choice of top hose for the E36 318 radiator.
This is the hose I used for my swap so that I did not have to cut an E36 top rad hose. C71654 from Advance Auto. You could probably take the number to a different chain and have it ordered.

As you can see from the bottom pic, you'll cut it in half just about where it stops on the Tstat flange. Then you cut a little off where it slips over the radiator top flange. This second will keep the hose from touching the engine.

I believe the other unused end would fit as the lower radiator hose but I already had an E36 M3 lower hose which I used instead.

For the M42 radiator the 525i M50 hoses (cut down of course) work fairly well too.

For the M42 rad I used this hose. I got both upper and lower pieces out of it.

I used a M20 upper rad hose shortened and it worked perfect. When I used my M42 hose the bend was too long and kinda of kinked.

I literally just replaced mine the other week, which, led to my ongoing coolant problems. I got the stock one for a 95 M3 and cut it down. However, because the ends were flarred to go over the necks, I had to work a LOT to get the hose over the neck on the engine. It essentially stretched it a bit. Is this what everyone else does or is this a dangerous condition to be running in? Didn't quite make me comfortable, but was the best I could do at the time. Any thoughts? M42 Rad w/ s50. Sorry, should have said that.

I stretched mine to fit over the flange as well. I used a heat gun to soften the hose and it slid on without too much trouble. It was a bitch, but could have been worse.
