    A few final questions

So my m50 is up and running beautifully.

I have very few items left to finish.

    1. Who has installed the e30 csb backwards using the e36 325i shaft and 240 trans?

    2. Is $300 a good deal for a complete e36 m3 exhaust (dual pipes) with cats/mid pipe/o2 sensor/ muffler all stock? I could spend $300 on 2.5'' single from jegs or go with this option, I know mattkd has this with his swap and is happy with it, but haven't been able to find many pictures or previous threads with specifics.

    3. Some are using the stock 318is throttle cable, some say the e34 m50 is too short. Anyone have a detailed photo of the throttle with the boot removed using the stock cable? I think I am missing a throttle cable bracket.

    4. Lastly, at 1/2 way on temp gauge my upper hose is REALLY hot, and my lower radiator hose is only warm, almost like the thermostat is stuck although the hose is warm not cold. It is a brand new wahler german 88* tstat, can anyone tell me how hot their lower hose gets relative to the upper?

    Thanks a million.

      1.) No clue
2.) Not sure, search on bimmerforums classifieds
      3.) e34m50 cable works perfectly, that's what I'm using.
4.) Lower hose will be cooler, if it wasn't then your radiator wouldn't be doing it's job right? Hot coolant goes into the top and comes out of the bottom cooler.

        1. Some say it works some say it doesn't....when I did my swap it didn't work so I cut and welded the stock linkage.
        2. yes that is a good price, buy it
        3. e34 throttle cable works fine
        4. its fine

This is a pic of the E34 throttle cable on an s52 with OBD1 manifold/TB.
With the throttle closed you can see that the cable is stretched taut...not so good.
E36 cable is the same as the E34, when I compared them side by side.

To get some slack at closed throttle with the E34 cable, shave some material off the trans facing side of that large anchor grommet....circled in orange. this will allow you to adjust more slack into the cable.

Dan, so the CSB is oriented which way exactly? Lol... do you have a photo? Do you know if $300 is a good deal for the exhaust? It sounds good to me...

It appears that I am missing that bracket under the throttle body to the right in 7pilot's photo. All I have is a nipple that goes to my charcoal can.

                Edit:
I nearly forgot, I picked up a coding plug for the gauge cluster from an 88 Super ETA, will this work with the swap?

I bought a muffle for $125 and paid a local exhaust shop $150 to build a header back exhaust. So you are going to spend $300 on an exhaust that still needs to be modified. Unless you are doing it yourself I wouldn't. But I also went with a single to save some weight.

I used the E34 throttle cable. Worked perfectly. Maybe they routed strange.

Yep. The water going into the top of the radiator is the hot water out of the engine. The lower hose is taking the cooled water back into the engine.

                      Thanks a million.

Thanks for the input guys. The advantage for me of going with the m3 exhaust is that the 02 sensor is included (~$80 new), a single magnaflow converter would run about $90, and some sort of muffler I would already be up to $300 there without fabrication and additional tubing.

With the m3 setup I am getting dual pipes, the desired sound (for my personal taste), an 02 sensor, cat converters, and a muffler with little modification. There is a local welder who can do the modification for me for relatively low cost. I still would like to see how matt's m3 setup looks but his PM box is full

                          Then go that direction.

There was an O2 port in the downpipe of my headers, and I'm not running a cat/resonator. Just TMS Shorties, to a custom downpipe, 2.5" all the way back through the biggest Thermal Research and Development muffler I could find.

Quite and idle and cruising at speed, but opens up like hell under WOT and does go raspy above 4k.

Damn the TMS shorties must be nice... do you have a picture up of your bay? My roommate had a thermal exhaust on his gti, it sounded pretty nice on the vr6, just the interior resonance would give you a headache if you had to sit in the back. I also have to pass emissions with my car.

I did the CSB backwards. It works.

I used the 318 throttle cable and it works perfectly.
