So I dyno'd my car today...

Like the title says. I dyno'd my card today. It was a random dyno as I thought my cousin (who is taking a dyno tuning class at school) was suppose to dyno my car last week but it failed through. So he called me this morning and asked me to bring in my car. So I did. I didn't run a big fan infront of my car, when I should have because my temps got really high. I'm waiting on my teacher to email my dyno graphs and air fuel ratios. Because of some circumstances (one being my cousin doing the dyno run and not fully flooring my car, which might have been the reason why i ran lean the first run) I will be dynoing it again. But I'm pleased with the numbers.

Power mods (lol i wish they were):

    - Turnermotorsport 24lb Injectors
    - Chuck & Stickley chip for (s50b30 US)
    - 3.5" HFM (from 540i/740i)
    - Custom catback

The rest is stock. Stock obd2 manifolds, stock obd2 midpipes, stock clutch and I pass emissions. =P

First run: Was running lean and hot for some reason when my cousin did a 3rd gear pull. Only made 215-225whp/210-15wtq (don't really remember).

Second run: I decided to do the dyno pull. 4th gear pull with a/f ratios around 12.9 - 12.3 but temp was still very hot. Only made 225-230whp/210-220wtq (don't really remember).

Conclusion, pretty good numbers if my memory serves me correct (i need those graphs lol I might be wrong on the numbers). Could be better if conditions were slightly more ideal but I will redyno soon with a fan to keep my motor cool as it was nearing the RED area on my temp gauge as we were dyno'ing. My teacher who's been working as a dyno tuning teacher for over 20 years says I should be able to squeeze slightly more numbers with proper temps and running rich.

He told me running hot and lean = power. And running cooler and rich = power. Running hot, and rich = less power. Running cooler and lean = less power. < --- Don't know if there's much truth to that.

But yea, enough with my low numbers. Could it be my car? Could it be the dynojet? Who knows. That's what it is.

If e30polak (Chris) doesn't mind speaking, he will tell you himself that these numbers don't do our race justice considering he put down 235whp/229wtq. =P

Interesting. Must have been exciting though. I've never been on a dyno, and can't wait to get on one with the swap car. In for graphs :)

Where did you go for dyno, and how much did it cost?

Well my numbers are Osh's "estimated correction," considering his dyno was pretty far out of calibration when he tuned my car. It could very well be that I'm putting down the same power or less then you. Different dynos put down different numbers, and the conditions will have an effect on those numbers as well.

Either way, you beat me in every gear aside from launch, so you have nothing to worry about. :p

Just woke up with a hangover... fuck. lol. Went to my school at Peirce College and it was free (for students taking the class).

Very true. Its hard to compare different numbers from different dynos. Did you ever get that stutter/throttle lag figured out?

EDIT: I need to email my teacher because I want my damn graphs!!!

Re EDIT: Dyno graphs up as of today at 4:55pm!

Graphs aren't as good as I remembered haha. But yea, circumstances were there and I definately can gain more power with a better retune and custom midpipes (no cats or resonators).

I definately should have made more power looking at the second run and a/f ratios but stupid temperature on my motor was so high i couldn't benefit from it.

Numbers seem low to you? I made 226 with the same mods from an s50 only with a crappy e30 exhaust and oem convertor which has since been replaced. My car runs like mad, I have no traction til 3rd.

Those numbers are good. Not sure why you are acting like they are low..

Wow. Probably gearing and lack of tire, right? Sounds like you are running 205 street tires and a 3.73 or better for that wheel peeling effect. Stiff suspension is probably contributing too, do you have coilovers? I'm just guessing though, cause I'm tired, it's late, and I have nothing better to do than speculate as to why you burn em through 3rd.

Pretty interesting there's almost no change in power from being
                  like 15.1 to 12.5 afr.

What kind of tires? I know I have a vacuum leak and need a fine tune but sheesh, i only loose traction in first when I gun it. Sometimes in 2nd, can only remember once so far. I'm on new bfgoodrich g-force sports on 8 inch wheels.

I have lost traction in second on a stock M20 with a blown head gasket (raining, 185s that had been sitting for years, slick road, but still), losing traction in gears doesn't mean shit except that your particular car is a hoot or a handful to drive.

i dunno if that situation says anything about the car being a hoot haha

Yup. That's what I find very interesting. The only reason is because my car was running hot. I should have seen more/better gains.

Lol... Say no to sportmaxx... Lol Yes I know haha.

On a lighter note... I'm finally making my a/c 100% operational. Bought new pag oil for my denso compressor and receiver, custom lines already made, bought a new a/c receiver & drier, and going to Peirce to evacuate and recharge my whole system with 2.15 lbs +/- 0.05 lbs of r134a freon! Should be useless for winter!!! HAHA
