Lifter or valve noise after hard driving.

I drove the car hard (s50) and it started having a noise that sounds like a lazy lifter or noisy valve. Any reason why this would happen? This noise sounds familiar to how my car would sound when I started it in a cold morning before changing the old oil.

Any ideas. Oil level is fine. Just started after redlining it a couple times.

    Could be a sticky lifter.
Add 1/2 a quart of oil, shake 'n' stir again, and see if it quiets it.
If not, try adding some Marvel mystery oil to the oil sump.

Edit...I don't know if they sell marvel in the Republika Kalifornia.

Known problem of M/S5X engines. How to solve might try a slightly heavier weight or another oil. What are you using presently?

You just add an extra quart to quart and a half on top of your normal fill. If I was using 5W30 and a little low. There was no stopping it.

common problem specially in cars that see track duty. It will go away if you just sit and r3v your engine. Add a half (if not a full) quart more.

My s52 (e34 pan) runs 6.5qts of 10w30 mobil 1... lately i'm running 7 and have never heard the valves since. These engines must consume a bit of oil though, i always seem to drain 6qts or less.. i've seen no evidence for leaks.
            No more e30s for me.

Same, every time it goes away with about 5-10 minutes of cool down lapping. Havent had any noise with my new head though. Only happened to me 3 times in 65k miles previously.

Thats what I thought. I am using 5w30 full syn mobile 1 extended performance.

I think I am going to switch to one of these or 15w30 full syn. I will start the lucas oil thing too since I did some research and there are a few people doing it. Adding a 1/2 quart did fix the noise though.

Funny thing is this engine has about 13k on the rebuild, shouldn't be burning or leaking or making this noise.

Engine is normally a 7 quart fill with an e36 pan, wonder if the pump just empties the pan faster than the availability. Or if this set up gives cavitation? Anybody have an oil pressure gauge on their engine?

After all my Auto X runs my M50 ticks, but if you let it idle standing for like 30 seconds it goes away. I think it's just oil starvation because of the hard driving.
