    24v starter issues...

So I've been swapped for years now but I had an auto harness in there. We did a swap on my friend's car recently, and I sold him my harness so I could swap a manual harness on my car. The car has been sitting for ~8 months due to me doing a lot of other crap to it while it was down. Now everything is all wired back up and the starter spins great but its not engaging? It was the m20 starter that I originally used with the swap.

The posts seem to be a little loose until you bolt the wires to them? I'm guessing I can pull the gear off the m20 starter and put it on the m50 starter?

I've wired a good few 24v swap cars now, and I'm certain the wiring is good on this new harness. Exp because the starter is spinning, just not moving onto the flywheel.

are you using an M20 flywheel? you need to have the matching starter/flywheel combo, or the gear is not engaging into the flywheel(not moving out). which would mean the starter needs a rebuild or replace.

yeah I have the m20 flywheel on there. Its weird that the starter would die just sitting there, but it happens. It was fine when I removed it...

Single mass, getrag 260 with original starter? Did you shave the back side of the flywheel? I forgot to do the same thing last one I assembled so hence it had to come apart again. Got pretty good at yanking the transmission under stands. Hope that's not the deal.

Can you turn the motor over via the crank hub with it out of gear? If not it;s rubbing on the bolts.

its the getrag 250 with an m20 flywheel combo. Its the exact same setup I was using when I pulled the getrag 240 off...

So the starter is not thrusting the gear correct? Then sounds like a bad solenoid? Might be time for a rebuilt unit. Autozone and the rest have Bosch units for about $150 with a core.

If its the solenoid you can swap/use the one from the m50 starter. I just did the same thing & it works great. Sounds like the soleniod is not engaging and kicking the sprocket out to meet the flywheel, pull the starter off and jump the soleniod and physically watch the sprocket engagement.
