^^ the things i could do if i had air... but this works just as well. Home made Spring compressor tool.. fuck yea!

i left the valves soaking overnight to clean most of the carbon deposits (exhaust side really). i wish i had take them to work and dropped them in a supersonic cleaner, but o well. I'll be finishing the head in hte next couple of hours and move onto the bottom end/bearings/seals. My damn piston isnt here yet.. sigh..
    No more e30s for me.

Where are you getting your bearings from? I have to redo my bottom end too. You are inspiring me to do it myself. Any special tools required other than the cam tools? I won't be rebuilding the head itself, as it was recently done.

        Thanks

Pelican Parts actually has some decent technical articles that you could use to gauge the scope of the work.

I forgot what kind of bearings I used for my build but they were definitely OEM, I just ask Patrick @ BMA and he sends it :)

pelican parts. i'm using std sized and what they call oem. Special tools none really, the right inverted torx sockets and a torque wrench or two.

i made my own cam lock/alignment tool with left over material from my work's machine shop. The cams you can bolt on if you orient the lobes correctly and take your time with the right torquing procedure (pelicanparts cams tech article). The toughest thing was the crank pulley nut. I suggest you undo it before you remove your engine, that is if you're planning to do the seals too.

why are you redoing your bottom end?

              sneak peek:

the less than stellar picture doesnt show the angles.

rebirth eta: saturday. new additions to rebuild: IE oil cap, oil temp, oil pressure, 11"x5"x2" oil cooler, solid mounts, brake lines.
this is the boost version of my gauges (to be used in amber color) ; /

I’m spending under a grand for the rebuild and all the parts I had to replace (cams, trays, valves and 1 piston).. plus additions. Not bad. Next year will be awesome!
              No more e30s for me.

i'm hoping to get word on the lifters today or tomorow.

I'm installing these at the time of startup to monitor things.. idea for gauges progressed into oil cooler, cool electrical gauges, modifying my wiring a bit with connectors to make things look cleaner more profesional. i'm tired of hacking away at this car for once... i found too good of a deals on ebay this last week. enjoy ; /

also replacing the panel where the duct control levers were with my own made out of ABS plastic to mount the second gauge and two switches (fan and idk..) the first gauge will be mounted where the blower resistor once was right next to the second!

                  oil cooler 11"x5.5"x2.5" -10AN :p

woa nice christmas gift to yourself! ...i need to upgrade my barbie suspension.

SoLive: for the 10secs or so that it ran, the lifters made no complaints.

...and for the record. i used no timing tools. no camshaft lock, no flywheel lock, no vanos tools, no exhaust cam sprocket turner.. nada. My camshaft "timing" tool was a block of abs plastic and an angle bar.

thanks for the help those that did.

                                second week of january baby!

took it out for a spin just now.. typical of me no hood and open headers down the nearest street. what a joy. The oil presure gauge is reading way above normal though. its marking around 75psi at idle. something is wrong. i don't think i hooked it up wrong. The temp gauge is working fine.
