A little update here. The peake tool did not work when I initially plugged it in. I then put power to pin/wire 22 at the x20 via a 9v battery. It worked like a charm and gave me more codes than the regular stomp test.
Greg, maybe power this wire in future adapters? just a suggestion.
Sadly, it gave me nothing that pinpointed the obvious solution. I did find a possible vacuum leak, though. Hopefully she'll be going soon.
Is it possible to pull codes through the e36 diagnostic port?

and a follow up question...is the peake tool able to give me more than I can find through a simple stomp test?
the peake tool is on order - my family has 2 other bmws, so its not just for my application, but hopefully it does something to help.Leave a comment:

no haven't changed anything between the 2Yeah it worked fine on mine car when me and tom hooked it up. It had a 02 code but I got it fixed but this was with the first adapter you made me. I dont know if you made any changes to the new one or not. I can ask tom if he messed around with the adapter or not if you want me too.Leave a comment:

I am able to read codes through the diagnostic port. I had a VANOS code and a voltage supply CEL or something like that earlier this summer, that I used a Peake to find.Leave a comment:

FredK, power @ x20 pin 22 will allow the scanner to function fully?
Greg, do I have power there? If not, Its gotta be easy enough to jumper some power to use the scanner.
I don't want to offend anyone or sound too stupid - It's just very frustrating to be so close but so far away from a clean running swap.
thanks guys.Leave a comment:
