    she not charging....

    first of all hello R3V. sorry ive been out so long. the 24v cabrio is running strong thanks to you guys.
    that is until now...
    after a foolish desicion to take her on a bit of a rally cross adventure (yes im aware what a moron this makes me :D:puppy:) she decided to stop charging :( which in turn pulled down the battery until she didnt have enough juice to keep the ignition and, fuel pump going...... and then there was no more fire from my six singing maidens and according to murphys law. this had to happen when i made it 30 mi from home in downtown cleveland. beleve it or not we were able to limp her home. speaking to my father, an old shool mudracer. he suggested rinsing out the alternator to see if any dirt made it inside. nope..... water ran clear. then he suggested it might be the mud in the starter. he said that if the starter had dirt in it it could be causing a massive power draw that would prevent the alt from really doing its job. so my next move is rinsing it out. any other ideas? or support as to why it might work? or just calling me stupid or telling me my stories are lame hell i dont care what i miss you guys.

    does the alt light in your dash work? that circuit is what supplies excitation voltage to the field windings of the alternator, no bulb=no charge for the battery.

      it was coming on dimmly last night.. not at all today. its normally off. like i mentioned earlier its interesting to think its the starter because right after my little adventure the starter stopped working and i had to bump start the car to fire it (5 speed FTW).

        Umm the starter probably didn't work cuz the battery was dead from the stated problem. Test the electrical sys. for a current draw with a DMM. see what is going on there.

            First point, learn to type in English. Your post made my head hurt.

            Second point, get an electrical tester. 24v alts are notoriously weak when it comes to contamination or lack of cooling so chances are it was on it's last legs already or you fried it. Throw a voltmeter across your battery terminals and see if you get any output from the alt and if not replace it. And keep it on the fucking road next time...

                    well we got her back up and goingi thanks to CRC QD Cleaner and Formula 710. its a charging again.

                        i dont. thats a freind of mine who helped me fix it. we took the alternator all apart did alot of cleaning and now it works again.
