    S52 Fuel Pressure Question

Its finally swap time and I find myself asking if I have covered all my bases.

My S52 is going into my 318is.

Is the 318is fuel system enough to cope with the S52?

I've heard a 255lph and a fuel pressure regulator will help.

    What do you guys think?

I bought a Walbro 255LPH Fuel Pump & Autoteq Fuel Pressure Regulator just to be on the safe side.

if u are doing obd1, the fpr is already in the manifold. the factory fuel pump is more than fine. if you do obd2 and maintain the original manifold, you will need to add a fuel pressure regulator since the factory design has the regulator under the driver's feet. you likely don't need the parts you purchased above.

My less than a year old M42 fuel pump died after my OBD1 S52 swap, I replaced it under warranty and the new one gave me problems yesterday in the middle of an intersection. I had to restart the car twice and coast it to the side of the road. I sat there for about 5 minutes with the car on idle, it revved fine in neutral. After that everything was back to normal. So anyone has more info an Walbro or other possible upgrade?

I don't think the delivery capacity of your pump is your problem, I would lean more towards electrical issues.

Maybe when you burn out your next pump have a look in the tank with a flashlight (not a lighter please) and see if there is a shit load of rust in the bottom of the tank that is killing your pumps as well. Do you tend to run your tank right to the bottom every time?

turned out it was the plug that powers the pump, although my first pump did go bad in 1 year. tank seems pretty clean, but the filter that attaches to the bottom of the pump does get pretty dirty.

pump issue again!!! so now after driving for about 1hr, stopped for 20 minutes, and hit the road again for 30minutes. The car was idling fine in rush hour traffic, until all of a sudden it bogged and died, i restarted it, it started fine, but as soon as i gased it, it died. i attempted that 3-5 times so i can get out of the middle lane on Interstate 4. So the question is "can the M42 fuel pump overheat after a while, in a s52 car?"

The pump is cooled by fuel. If you run on a dry tank, then you burn out the pump.
You have an issue with the pump power supply circuit, or junk in the tank, or a bad DME.

You need to diagnose the problem, or let someone do so.
Throwing pumps at the problem is not a fix.
