Alright, I have an OBD2 motor in my 87 325es (e30).
I have it running... but it misfires horribly and isn't driveable. It took me a while to get all figured out since I'm not too experienced in this field, and I did initially hook up a ground to power (n00b I know) which made a popping noise and a small burn marking on the case of the ECU.
Here's the deal, I threw a laundry list of codes.
12, EWS Signal
08, Air Mass Sensor
14, Check Engine Lamp
d9, CAN Bus timeout
3d, After-cat 02 sensor heater, cyl 4-6
4f, After-cat 02 sensor heater, cyl 1-3
44, EVAP System, purge control valve ckt.
32, EVAP System running losses valve
34, Rear Exhaust Valve Flap
06, Fuel Injector Cyl #1
So I identified MAF, O2s, and Fuel Injector 1 as my major problems and I'd go from there.
(If someone knows much about CAN bus timeout that would be nice, I'm wondering if it has to do with traction control delete)
I got a new MAF, flip-flopped the 02 conections, and took apart the fuel rail and injectors, replacing injector number 1.
Reset the codes, drove the car and it drove better. For a couple minutes until it started to warm it was driving really smooth. But when I was feeling good I decided to open it up and at 5000 or so rpm it cut out completely. Also began stumbling and misfiring often. Then finally began to die if it idled.
So I pulled the codes, here's what I got:
14, Check Engine Lamp
d9, CAN Bus timeout
3d, After-cat 02 sensor heater, cyl 4-6
34, Rear Exhaust Valve Flap
06, Fuel Injector Cyl #1
Now I'm confused. I don't get why the EVAP and EWS codes would go away as I changed nothing, and I don't get what is wrong with Injector number once since I replaced it. If it was a misfiring code I could test spark but it's not...
Apparently one o2 is truly bad while the other is now connected properly, not too worried about that situation. I think it's just the Injector 1 code that is keeping the car from running right, correct?
(I still have lingering fears that I fried the ECU but in order to try a new one I'd have to get it aligned for the EWS which costs money, and if it wasn't the problem then I just literally threw away 150 bucks)
Input from the m52 and BMW masters would be so appreciated. 5 months with out my car and I'm getting pretty damn frustrated. I hope this was all clear.
PS: I don't want to hear should haev gone obd1, while this MAY have been true I didn't, I'm here, and I'm close so I'm staying obd2.
Thanks.

That thread outlines everything, I believe.
