    s50 dipstick tube

^^^^^^^^^^^ I have never been able to get this to sit right inside the oil pan. Is there just one o-ring and a bracket up top? I fell like the bracket does everything and the seal down low does nothing. What have I been doing wrong?

Yup, that is it and it f*cking sucks. It you hard mount it, it should be all good.

It's kinda hard to push the dip stick tube all the way in. Just put a little lube on the o-ring and it should slide it easily.

well, my engine is an s52. i assume the dipsticks are the same but maybe not. i cannot use the s52 dipstick tube in the e34 oil pan because the diameter of the tube where it goes into the pan is too big to fit in the hole.

if there is some particular reason why you want to use your e36 dipstick instead of the one from an e34, you can grind the weld that holds the tube hold down bracket off an e34 tube and bolt it to your e36 tube. i would not make the assumption that the e36 stick and tube are the same length as what is required to fit your e34 pan. if you do use the assembly from your s50, at least make a comparison to be sure they are the same. it would not be a stretch to say using the wrong tube in your pan could make your oil level off either way by a quart or more. personally, i wouldn't take a chance on it. if you can find an junk yard m50 525i or 725i, i think you would be better off. just my 2 cents.
