m50 engine rebuild manual

I have a non vanos M50 in my garage that I will be putting in my e30 soon. I am still gathering parts including a S50 crank.

I am planning on rebuilding the engine with all new gaskets and bearings but was wondering if there is a rebuild manual for the m50. Should I just get an e36 Bentley manual or is there something better available?

for some stupid reason, the bentley doesnt cover the bottom end at all whatsoever. i use a combination of the bentley and haynes (covers full bottom end), and sometimes other sources like the bmw service manual software.

I don't have an e36 so it would suck to buy a manual that has nearly no engine rebuilding info in it. waffleswaffleswaffles the haynes manual have head info regarding cam timing, head bolt procedures/torques ect?

yes it does. the bentley is better written, but if youre a real big cheapass and cant drop 30-40 bucks for a brand new one on amazon, then drop 20 on just the haynes. it has all you need. but really the more info the better, why skimp? i guess that extra 40 bucks can really push your extra super cheap m50 non vanos swap budget over the limit.

the bentley is better in general, but for some reason omits bottom end information. it covers timing and everything else on the motor. if price is no issue, get a bentley and haynes and maybe some other ones, whatever strikes your fancy. theres not much 'searching through' of these books...they have table of contents and indexes....

Has anyone looked through the Bentley Z3 manual... or possibly an e34 manual?

there is a bmw torque spec manual (seach google) for every bolt on your engine. that should be enough for your rebuild. Realoem.com will have exploded views of your engine and components just in case. I just rebuilt my s52.. first rebuild i've ever done and i didnt find anything confusing or terribly complicated. It took me like an hour to figure out how to install/time the vanos, but you don't have it so you're good mang ; /

I know I will get some manual for it, I would just rather one reference which covered everything for $100 rather than two references that are $55 and $25 each.

What about a BMW TIS CD?

i have the bmw cd, its not nearly as easy to follow as either book. just get the haynes, you can do everything with that and i cant think of anything ive run into that it doesnt cover.
