    i cant tell very well from your pictures, but there should be 2 brown wires in that area covered by black heatshrink. and they should be grounded.

        Right, thanks again. I just grounded that wire (the lead on the E34 harness that came out with the DME connector), then powered the red wire that was connected to the relays and it seems to be working.

        I got fuel pump relay click, then a starter solenoid click when I went to crank it, but it gave up immediately. I'm going back tomorrow with jumper cables. :)
