240k oil "stains" wtf do I do?

So I picked up a sexy E36 with a "leaky rear main seal". I immediately located the problem being the valve cover gasket. Yay cheap car.

Anywho. I go to replace the gasket today and notice the gasket is now plastic. I get into the head and notice theres tons of caked on oil. you touch it and it flakes off kinda oil stains. i also noticed the spark boots are 1k. I hae 1.8k new ones.

    Questions:
What can I do about the flakes without ripping the motor apart.
can I replace the dead 1k boots with 1.8k boots and be ok?
    wtf?

run some ATF in the oil, and change it every week for the next month

well should I clean all the gunk then do that or just leave the gunk where it is? I should so change the filter like once an hour...

Oh yea, while the cover is off scoop as much as that goo out as possable. Pour some Seafoam over it to loosen it up.

when you say "1k or 1.8k" wires, are you referring to ohms?

I think you're good to go with 1.8k's, isn't that what stock is? And remove as much gunk as possible, run some oil additive in the oil, change it hot, ignore the problem until it becomes a problem.
