    My wiring, any corrections??

My car is an 86 325es, motor is 93 M50:

    86es Function 93 M50
    1 Alternator 25
2 Oil level static not used
    4 Coolant temp 12
    5 Oil Pressure 23
    6 Pwr Ign on(fused) 22 use for O2
7 pwr ign (no fuse) 21
    10 oil level (dynamic) 2
    11 Serv reset 19 diagnostic
    13 fuel pump 13
    18 starter/power 18

For the tach I need to run a wire from green cluster plug (blue/yellow wire) to the c104 blk/white in the glove box.???

not sure what to do with the oil sender wires, I have confused myself by reading to much I think..
    Thanks

You need to learn how to read the ETM's it is really the only way you are going to understand what you are doing. The tach signal is in the C104, along with the econogauge signal, this is in your glovebox. those both need to go to pins on the X20, but i cant remember off the top of my head which ones.

The manuals are very easy to read, at any connection there is a line break with '^' and beside that on oneside you will have the connector(x20,c101,c104,c1, etc) and on the other side you will have the pin number in that connector. Download both manuals from the engines car and the E30 chassis and then just play connect the dots. this will also help you understand it a lot better. When i did mine the first time listening to guys online i ended up burning up 2 wires becuase someone gave me the wrong info. took me hours to rip it all appart and extract/replace the wires. After this i went though the ETM and made sure all my connections were correct.... the car fired up first shot.

I understand what I am doing, for the most part, I have the ETM's, and have gone through them as good as I can. On the 86e I have there seems to be some differences from the etm. I guess I was just hoping someone who has done an 86 can kinda compare and tell me if anything is way off. I am trying to understand what to do with 2 of the 3 c104 wires now. I have been going by thie:

pin 24 on the e36 goes to the red/yellow wire of the c104
pin 14 on the e36 goes to the black wire of the c104
pin 20 of the e36 goes to the wire on the back of the instrument cluster in the circuit board with the green covering that snaps onto the cluster.

But my c104 wires are either a different color (yell/wht, grn/red, blk) or I am looking at the wrong connector.

      Thanks

        is this the c104:

Does (x20)pin 24 go to the white/yellow and the green red, and then the black goes to (x20)pin 24?? Thats what I am assuming..

            the green/red is not needed.

my ETM for my 92 M50 shows pin 20 on the x20 is tach, and 24 is fuel consumption...

so pin 20 to black in C104, pin 24 to yellow/white

OR, you can cheat, instead of running wire all the way to the C104, which in turn just runs back in the other direction to the cluster.. pull the cluster out and find the blue plug(known as C1) in its bundle of wires there will be a yellow/white, and a black which usually in a shrink wrap of its own. those are the same wires as the C104. black is tach, yellow/white is econo. you can cut them right off and just connect the x20 wires right there directly to the cluster pretty much

Now I am confused as to where I will get speed from. I know the sensor is on the rear diff, but where to I pick it up and splice it in? I double checked all of my ETM stuff for a couple of hours tonight and am brain fried now.

yes, wheel speed for the speedometer is picked up from the diff, and you never(hopefully) messed with that wiring. You do need to run one wire from the back of the cluster(the lonely green plug that is currently for cruise control) add another wire into that and run it to the x20 where it wants vehicle speed

133 of ETM under cruise control

Are you saying just extend the single green from the cluster to x20, or run two wires from it to x20(which doesn't make sense). Sorry if this seems dumb but I am very brain fried.

the current wire on that green plug is for cruise control, so if you still want cruise controll leave that one, and add another(cut the wire, twist one end in with your new wire, then connect normally back to the other half(weather you solder or crimp is your call) or you can go to the dealer and get another green plug, and make another plug that plugs into the cluster(there are 2 or 3 speed outputs on the back)

When I removed all of my trans wiring I had 2 brn wires left at the dme plug. Did anyone else have these left? I really dont want to take the plug apart unless I have to. Thanks

How is that easier? Why not just splice directly into the harness at the DME to get those signals? Right now I've got a temporary long wire running from the X20 to the C104 but the C104 is right there next to the DME... why not just get a male C104 and splice it into the DME..

im figuring most will take it from the x20 and backtrack it to the c104... either way works i guess...
