My car has a steel plate that the shifter sits in, as opposed to the aluminum mount I have seen on other cars. Is it possible to just put a spacer between the plate and the trans to get the shifter in the right position as opposed to bending the linkage??

if you want to lean the lever back, longer bolts and spacing the plate back would do it. Are you trying to clear the guibo? Also, there is a bracket that can mount the aluminum console to the same holes as the sheetmetal console.
Part numbers:
25112225369 bracket
07119912588 M8x140 bolt (need 2)
25112225344 pin for the late-model console
07119904295 nut for the above pin'89 325i track sloot

i was going to use a plate shifter originally too, you can just bend it up and tighten the bolts(the rubber inserts in the mounting tabs flex a fair bit) but that wont correct the shifter, and you will still need to bend or rotate one end of the rod ~12 degrees
i ended up getting a Zf320 when i had to pull the engine out to replace the pan gasket(which is NOT possible when the getrag is behind an E34 pan)Last edited by MattM; 01-16-2010, 12:55 AM.
