Help me with transmission identification

I have a line on a 5 speed from a 98' 328i. My question is can this be identified as a G250 or ZF just by the 328i or year? or were those transmissions in whichever car they were put in.

What im looking for is if G250 were put in 318 for example and ZFs in 325/328 or was it by year. Are there markings on the casting or is it just by part number? thanks.

the ZF from a 328 shares the same as a E36 M3, will be a ZF stamp on it and a vin #.

Yup, it should be a ZF. $200 is an excellent price.
