    Engine cleaning

My engine is out and it needs a good cleanup!

I tried engine degreaser, but its not that strong... I tried a dremel with a the softer metal brush and DAKI --> it worked good, but I need to rinse it with water afterward which is not really good for when I will start to remove some parts...

    What are your procedures?

I just take some of the acid degergent from my dads shop IDK who makes it. But fuck it cleans fast and will oxodize aluminium if you leave it on to long lols. Its probably a ZEP product scince everything else is there.

Im pretty sure this is it.

What about the effect on plastic and rubber? If I remember right, acid on plastic wont do nothing...

                What about oven degreaser?

i bead and walnut blasted my valve cover to repaint it. (obd1 style where the factory paint is always messed up) it was mostly just to see if the pos harbor freight blaster gun would actually work and it did, but it clogged regularly and used a lot of media to get it done. next time i blast something im going to try a cheap diy like these guys:

and after that probably end up buying a decent blaster

I recently purchased a soda blaster unit from Harbor Freight.....it works well, plus the cleanup is easy. Just make sure you've got a well ventilated area to work in.

It cleaned up my M52 for the swap quite well. Just my .02 cents.....

The formula is scrape with a screwdriver all the reallllly grimy stuff, then spray on any degreaser, wire brush on a drill/die grinder, wear eye protection, use brake cleaner and paper towels to tidy things up once 95% of the dirt is gone, high temp primer, gaudy color. WOOO

Oil pan and front cover I'm using as masking tools now, they will come off and the pan will get replaced with e34 and front cover, valve cover, pulleys, fasteners, everything that unbolts basically will get powdercoated

I've tried oven cleaner on plastic and rubber, no damage.

Then I cleaned my engine with it. It degrease for sure, but it leaves a kind of white residue...
