    turbo fire balls

    so i just put a m50b25tu in my 86' 325es and finnaly got it running and drivable. it pulls hard up to 4,000-4,500 rpm but then seems to sputter and backfire... at first i thought it was the vss so i wired pin 14(x20) to the green connector on the back of the gauges and it seems to help in 1st gear some but still only makes it up to 5,500 rpm befor it sputters. it also smells rich at idle but the sputter feels like it might be running out of fuel. i thought it would be fixed and am now out of ideas so please give me advice on were to look next. ps when it backfires it shoots a couple huge fireballs out the exhuast haha and as cool as it may look i dowt its healthy.

    im not sure what else thats on there would be relevant to this problem so if you have an idea about the setup please help, i have to do emissions this week.

    So you turbo'd the motor with just the factory dme? Not even a BEGI FPR? You're tune is WAY off, which could cause a super rich condition = fire ballz.

        no i forgot to add that it has a trm chip tuned for everything on the motor. i put an edit in but its really small. could old gas be causing detonation??? its been sitting for 2 months, i wouldnt think it would go bad that fast but im changing it first think in the morning to find out.

        i would put a vid of the fireballzz but im afraid of blowing this shit up, especially if its detonation from bad gas.

          Sounds like limp mode. Is the ECU getting the speed signal? Check the stored codes.

            how is your o2 and maf hooked up? before on the intake? or after the compressor, same with o2? do check codes first /\/\/\/\

                the maf it befor the compressor, o2 is about 2' downstream from the turbo and is brand new from bosch, im also going to pull out the smoke machine tomorrow and test for leaks on the downpipe and for any boost leaks
                ill put it on the dyno with the 5-gas at school and see if that tells me anything

                    how would i check limp mode or codes, just a "stop test"? i will call trm and see what the chip is tuned for, i think i may have changed the coils and intercooler after i got it, but dont think that should matter much

                      what is your idle speed? kinda high or is it normal? usually limp home mode will raise the idle i believe, you can force retrieve the codes by connecting two pins on the Dlc but i dont know which pins

                          you lucky motha fucker i went to sac uti, (the infection) as we called it the bmw msat was ridiculous to get into...well my attendance was at like 95% so i was fucked...congrats though man...look up what pins to connect for the codes though that should help

                            idle ranges from normal to high to hunting. there is no icv... its blocked off on the manifold but it most commonly idles smooth at 700. after pushing it har though a couple gears it will start idle hunting but calm down after a few minuets of sitting
