318i DME/ECU Bracket necessary??? OR can I just make sure its grounded?

I can't find a 318i dme bracket from a used car and I'm not really interested in paying $40 bucks for all new brackets... can I just make sure its grounded well off to the body somewhere with speaker wire or something? In addition to making something that would hold the dme?

    Thanks,
    - D

My car ran fine (still does) with the DME just hanging there. Not a permanent solution, but you do not technically need to ground it for it to run.

I live in Tucson, AZ - bmw yards here suck.... you wouldn't beleive the price i paid for my front sump oilpan with pickip and dipstick tube....

Maybe actually. I think I'm going to go with what wh44lhop did - expect make sure at least somehow its being ground additionally. Hopefully i don't fry it... but I've heard of people doing this.

Wiring diagrams don't say anything about it being grounded, you can make whatever you want to hold it there.

zip ties work well :) i'm running the e34 harness so I can't do the bracket.
I got a fender roller now! LMK if you need me to roll your fenders or want to rent the tool from me locally.

Me too, I am thinking more and more that I'm never going to be able to hold the ECU in the stock location (I even got the damn bracket).

If you flip your ECU over shouldn't it like up with at least 2 of the holes for the bracket?

You do not need the bracket. IT will fit in the original place but it will be held by the washers of the screws but it will stay put.

An E30 DME does not require the DME case to be grounded.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

ecu doesn't need to be grounded. plug it in and its ready to roll. how you get it to stay in the dash is up to you
