    E30 + M52 Dipstick tube..

Hi guys. im putting an M52 into my E30. running the E34 sump of course, but i have a bit of an issue with the dipstick tube.

On the E36 dipstick tube there was a hose going into the base of it at the side from the upper engine. on the E34 tube there is no inlet for this hose. should i block the hose off or..? E34 did not come out with M52 engined cars, so if this hose is only present on M52 engines, whats the way around it? Does E38 or E39 use the same sump as E34 on the M52s in them?

Pictures tell a thousand words but the camera is playing up sorry!

that hose is for the CCV. My solution, and it works great. No hose. breather filter at the valve cover. done.
    No more e30s for me.

This is a diagram of the hose from RealOEM here, is part number 6. Is that rubber piece at the bottom of part 2 that the hose connects to never filled with oil?

Or are you saying i should get rid of this entire system and put a filter in place of hose part 1?

are you converting obd2 to obd1? The picture you showed is for a obd2 setup, you will modify a obd1 valve to fit on the obd2 valve cover. this piece has 2 holes on it, 1 goes to a vacumn on the ICV (small one) other goes to your intake elbow. Hope that helps.

sorry im not understanding what you are saying. I am staying with OBD2. Is what you are saying for if i was converting to OBD1 and therefore i should disregard it?

drill a hole on the top side of the oil pan, then tap threads for a 1/4" or 3/8" barb fitting. If you must retain the function.
or cut'n'shut the branch of the e36 pipe to your E34 pipe.

etxxz, to clarify what you are saying, are you saying i should put one of these:

                ...here (blue circle):

...and do away with the crossed out stuff all together (except the dipstick lol)? if not what do you mean exactly? could you show me a picture of your setup? thanks

(ps, link to that picture if you want to draw a diagram here)

                      It is an emissions device.
It drains the oil/water/air mix out of the cam case, separates the fluids to drain down in the sump, and feeds the air/vapor back in to the intake manifold.

so that would be a no i cant remove it? or a yes? is said oil in liquid state or some gassy vapour with said air and water? we dont have emissions testing here so not really worried, and would rather remove it as i dont want to tap into the existing dipstick tube.

                            You can remove it.
Run a small filter as shown, as long as the engine is healthy and does not have excessive blow by or crankcase pressure..
Also make sure that it is legal in your area, to tamper with this emissions device.
Some parts of Australia ban such mods.

Ok so, yes. you have the right picture EXCEPT, if you just put a breather filter sideways like you're thinking there, oil will drip all down the side of your engine when you take hard right turns. If you plug that hole, you'll pressurize the crankcase so you don't want to do that. Elbow, breather. done ; /
                              No more e30s for me.
