Ok so, yes. you have the right picture EXCEPT, if you just put a breather filter sideways like you're thinking there, oil will drip all down the side of your engine when you take hard right turns. If you plug that hole, you'll pressurize the crankcase so you don't want to do that. Elbow, breather. done ; /
According to those regs the gases must be returned to the inlet manifold for burning.
Catch cans are only acceptable on race cars with motorsport exemption.
Thats not how the setup on the M52 works anyway though. there is one line going to the crank case, one going to the dipstick, and the assembly bolts to the side of the intake to provide the vacuum for the thing to work.

Um no.
The crankcase is vented through the oil seperater (no 2 in your diagram) and then into your intake manifold (fitting no 3 in your diagram).
The whole purpose of the arrangement is to burn off the vapours in the cranckcase.
It doesn't need vacumn as the crankcase has positive pressure.
