When I swapped out my oil sump from the e36 one to the e34 one, I didnt change the gasket. To be honest I dont even remember if there was one on before. How big of a deal is that?

I think there might be a gasket, at least what realoem states. I don't remember switching out a gasket for mine, I wouldn't expect it to be too big of a deal really though, but don't quote me on this.I got a fender roller now! LMK if you need me to roll your fenders or want to rent the tool from me locally.

by sump you mean oil pan? correct?...if so there is kinda a big issue the front and rear of the blocks have aluminum covers for the front an real seal which stick down just a hair shy of the iron block and with/o a gasket or reusing the old gasket its guna leak for sure...mine leaks after i did my swap and i used a brand new gasket but the PO stripped a tiny oil pan bolt towards the rear so its missing 1 bolt and it leaks there"God created turbo lag to give V8's a chance" Taylor D.

Watson, I mean the pick up tube.
I mean Im pretty sure the stock one was one it. I just didnt replace it. That is a lot of work to redo if it isnt that big of a deal.Comment

I see where you guys are headed with that, as if it were to get air in the lines when it's pulling the oil up.I got a fender roller now! LMK if you need me to roll your fenders or want to rent the tool from me locally.

I was actually worried about this during my swap so I got a new gasket. Is the car running? If not how far along are you on it?

If you start to hear valve tick at high RPM, remove the pickup, apply silicone, replace pickup. Silicone > paper gasket.1987 BMW 325is | Frankenmotor S50 | Supersprint Replica Headers | K&N Intake | Gutted Stock Midpipe | Zimmermann Rotors | Stainless Brake Lines | Porterfield Racing PadsComment

No it isn't, use the proper gasket! Silicone is for hacks, now some silicone on a paper gasket isn't bad though...

Where did I say remove the paper gasket? Of course if you remove the pickup you should replace the paper gasket. Every single paper gasket (except the head gasket) on my motor has silicone to seal it. No leaks.1987 BMW 325is | Frankenmotor S50 | Supersprint Replica Headers | K&N Intake | Gutted Stock Midpipe | Zimmermann Rotors | Stainless Brake Lines | Porterfield Racing PadsComment

The dealer didnt have it in stock. I ended up taking it off and using copper silicone gasket. I also did my oil pan with it too.I have built motors before with silicon gasket and never had any leaks. I dont see why this would be any different. I really dont want to take that pan off againLast edited by motorsports_3; 02-17-2010, 09:45 PM.Comment

I took my pan out of a e34 at the upull and that was total hell. Thats why I fixed it now, while the motor is out of the car.Comment
