Interest in modified m50 manifolds that allow for use of stock booster

So the Castro's (the shop that sponsors me) have figured out a way to modify the m50 manifold, so that you can use the factory m20 booster with a 24v swap.

The area of the box that is removed and glassed over to clear the booster is already very restrictive. I will have pics up this week of the area that is cut out, measurements of the original restriction, and pictures showing how small of a difference the modification makes to the manifold.

From a performance stand point, all the swaps they've done perform just as well as mine (I don't have a modified manifold).

Here is a pic of the recent swap done for a member on e30tech. This one required added clearance because the customer opted to use softer, after market motor mounts, which were not recommended.

The price for a modified manifold will be $175 + shipping, which includes the actual manifold.

The price for modifying a manifold that will be given/shipped, will be $75.

Either option is MUCH cheaper than buying a new or used e21 or IX brake booster, will be less work, and will allow you to keep factory brake assist.

More info on the motor mount and arm combination that allows for this to work will be given to those purchasing the manifold, or having their manifold modified.

    I do that now too.
Did it to MrEricT's swap and I did it on jasonslackisrad's swap.
I plastic weld mine rather than fiberglass them.

So if this isn't the same E36 arm/E28 mount that has been used, does the transmission assuming G260) still tilt? Will my old driveshaft still fit?

Transmission choice wont matter. We'll provide the mount arm and mounts used for customers showing actual interest.

I don't see why this would be bad for a boosted engine. The fiberglassed area is very strong and the volumetric area of the manifold in barely changed.

It may be easy, but an nex IX booster will cost you considerably more then doing this. If you get a used one form a yard, then you run the risk of getting a bad part.

Just offering an affordable option for people entertaining a 24v swap. ;)

I don't see how it's a good idea to "redesign" the intake manifold of an engine... But that's just me.

I'll stick with my E32 brake setup. :)

I wouldn't touch a modified intake manifold like this with a 10 foot pole.

Hopefully m3maker will post his review of the manifold. The Castro's have done this to 5 swaps now, with no issues. The manifold performs very well. If it's worth it, I may have Osh dyno my car with my manifold vs. this one to see if there truly is any difference.

Different strokes for different folks. I realize this isn't going to be for everyone. I was just as skeptical as everyone else, but I've driven all the swap cars and they perform as they should.

For boost, something custom would be required I'd think.
