    About to embark on a 24v swap! Few quick questions

    Hey guys, new here. I just picked up an 87 325ie and i'm planning on doing a full restoration from the ground up. I'm trying my best to plan everything out so the whole project will hopefully go smoothly, and i'm just trying to finalize my list for the M50 swap. I'm planning on doing a full refresh on the motor and I was hoping to have anybody give me some input as far as if i'm missing anything so far. Hopefully this will also help anybody else in my same position! Anyways, thanks ahead of time and i'll be posting up pictures of the build as I go along.

    M20/30 Sachs Fan Clutch
    M20 Cooling Fan Blade
    E28 535i Engine Mount - if you want this to be informative to others you should also include which model
    E30 325ix Brake Booster
    E36 320i Transmission Mount - Can also use factory E36 Mounts
    E36 M3 ZF 320 Tranmission - Again, needs more info
    E36 Tranmission Filter Gasket Kit
    E34 Oil Pan
    E34 Oil Pan Gasket
    E34 Oil Pickup
    M50 OBD1 Engine Harness
    M50 ECU(DME)
    M50 Head Gasket Set (Victor Reinz)
    S52 Camshafts (Intake/Exhaust) - if you're getting S52 cam's you'll also need the S52 retainers OR you can just get S50 cams
    M50 Supertech Valve Springs & Retainers
    M50 Supertech Valves

    M50 Oil Pump
    E36 Water Pump, Thermostat, Radiator Hose Kit

    E30 Power Steering Rack and Pinion - If you're going through all of this trouble already, I highly recommend replacing the rack with an E36 unit.

      Oh man...how nice that sounds! Built any swap cars before? Worked on BMW much? Obviously you have some experience wrenching or you would not attempt a fairly major undertaking.

      Don't forget to post a ton of pics.

        Thanks guys! I've built a few cars before.. 94 RX7 TT, (2) 89 RX7, MR2 with 3SGTE swap, (3) AE86 Corolla's with several 4AGE motors including ae101, ae111, and ae86, worked on a few subarus, s2000's, evo's, etc.. i've been around the scene a while both working in shops as well as shooting for a few magazines including Super Street, PAS Mag, EuroTuner, JTuned, etc..

        E30 has always been one of my dream cars and I figure going the 325i route is cheaper than buying an m3 and modding from there. I have a few industry friends helping out with the project so it should hopefully go pretty smoothly but I plan on doing it right the first time and spending the time to do it, so I figure a budget build, I'll be throwing $1k into it per month for about a year or so. That should give me all the suspension mods and reinforcements, interior goodies, my wilwood 6/4 pot bbk, etc..

        I mainly want to build the car as a weekend/canyon cruiser, and something to take to track days to mess with the bigger "badder" cars haha. If you guys have any tips, please let me know.. especially anything to watch out for. It'd be greatly appreciated. I plan to document everything as to help future DIY guys.
