Ok. So I am almost done with my m50tu swap into my 1991 318is, and I go to start it and nothing happens but one loud click from the starter....what did I screw up? I used the g240 with the g240 flywheel. Everything is hooked up, so what could the problem be? Also, my idle regulator seems to be making a lot of noise. No idea why. I checked the wires going into it and they are correct, so don't know what the problem is with that. All the help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

clean and tighten your main battery connection to the starter and check all your grounds. the click is the solinoid opening, but the juices arent flowing past it to crank the engine over.
Your ICV may be gummed up, remove it and inspect/clean it out. if its clean and your sure its hooked up correctly then it might be bad, time to replace

Ok. So I checked the ground and it was fine. Here is a video of what it does when I turn the key. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fx4Rr-AQAOY
I hope the link works. Sorry it's a crappy iphone video. I hope you can hear what I've been asking about too.

that snap is the solinoid and the gear in your starter engaging the flywheel. the starter isnt getting the power it needs to crank. either bad ground, bad main lead, or bad battery.. like others have said, make sure all your connections are tight and clean, shiny metal to shiny metal.... no exceptions.
theres a small chance it could be the starter aswell, but unlikely
before you buy a new battery you could try jumping it with another car.

jumping the car would have eliminated the battery from probably causes to your issue.
youve gone over the postive leads, and double checked them all. B post to starter, clean and tight?
if so i dont know what else it could be other then a bad starter? its a bitch, but you could pull the starter and bench test it with some jumper cables and a good battery. make sure you have the starter in a vice or have a buddy hold it down, its very torquey and will jump off the bench when it kicks if your not careful

M20 or M50 starter?
if M50 (m20 may have had it too, i cant recall)then one last thing, do you have the large (17mm IIRC) bolt from the back of the starter into the block in place? , is it clean and tight? this is the starters main ground, and if its not in its possible the starter isnt getting a solid ground via the transmission...
