You can use small booster (or even no booster at all) if you use pads with a high coefficient of friction. But it usually only applies to race set-up as such high friction pads are not always street friendly, meaning they can grind rotors over a long period of time if used cold continuously.
If you don't mind replacing your discs every year, then may I suggest Wilwood's H compound. It is a high friction, enduro pad that lasts a very long time, and has 85-90% of its total friction even when dead cold. PAd is not cheap, but well worth the expense.
Are you fitting an M50 motor? If so, I suggest the e21/2002 booster moved away (from the engine) by perhaps 3/8" to 1/2". You won't have to grind the fins on the intake manifold. Stick to 21 or 23mm MC
BTW I am about to start a thread about using a same size bore MC vs the e30 differential bore MC.
e21/2002 are similar except for the length of the rod (e21 is easier to mod). It offers enough assist so that you don't grow gorilla legs.
If you played softball in high school, you wont have a problem.
You missed comments on the ix/e32, also the 944 booster. I did the e32 booster and master and love how the brakes feel. However i think its the largest booster setup you can go with and still do a swap. I think the 944 booster is about the same size as the e21 booster.
Im actually not going 24v
Im making room for a new intake manifold on my m42
From further searching it seems the golf booster is smallest at 9" diameter, then e21 at 9.25" and the 944 being 9.5"
Supposibly the geo one is 8" but idk about that one
Honestly probably nothing wrong with it, but really using parts from a geo?
Is it pretty much bolt on like the rest ?
I know some of the guys over the pond have used the MK1 Golf/Rabbit booster. Not sure about the specific year range.. I bet the info is all over some of the forums for your area though.
^^They probably will work. The big benefit of the MK1 booster is that it will fit with the individual throttle plenum on the S50, as I understand it. I'd like to get my hands on one..
